I was brought in to redesign Washington University's literary journal, The Seattle Review, in 2009. After some exploration, the senior editor and I decided to approach the cover and the brand with a thematic image that could be repeated and reinterpreted with each issue. The image that most inspired me was based on a photograph that I took at the Gasworks, a park in Seattle that is built around a rehabilitated natural gas refinery. The iconic forms made it well suited for reinterpretation and the deep space evoked the mission of the journal to publish long form poems as well as essays and short fiction.
